Bryony Simcox

Co-founder/Head of Production, Broaden

Sean is an absolute delight to work with. Sean and Goldfinch Heritage make history exciting – bringing historical research into the fore through curiosity, storytelling and curation. We worked with Sean on Reebok and Walsh, a 30 minute non-fiction documentary for a large-scale exhibition to be viewed by 1000s of in-person visitors at Bolton Museum and audiences digitally too. As filmmakers, working with a historical researcher like Sean is a real pleasure because he understands narrative threads and interesting angles that will bring a documentary to life. The finished product is a testament to Sean’s input and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Debbie Longley-Brown

Project Development Manager, Pedestrian

We initially engaged Sean for our Arts Council funded project, ‘Grime Opera’, to lead on the heritage element we were developing. Having been so impressed and pleased with the work he did, we didn’t hesitate to bring him on board for our National Lottery Heritage Fund project ‘Tell Tall Tales’ as the lead researcher and writer. Sean really is great to work with – he’s attentive to the project and its needs, he is proactive and pragmatic, and he worked well with the different stakeholders in the project, including our partners, writers and illustrators. Our project was a great success and a significant part of that is down to the work Sean did. He is a pleasure to work with and I can’t wait for the next opportunity we will have to engage him again.

Rob Heslop

Director, Rendah Films

I have worked with Sean on a couple of large scale projects now and both times the research documents he has provided have been crucial to the success of the team’s work. As well as being fantastically competent and hard working, Sean is also really easy to work with and brings a warm and confident approach to the projects. I have already written Sean into future pitches as I am keen to work with him again.

Matthew Watson

Curator of Art and Social History, Bolton Museum

I’m very pleased to recommend Sean for future museum and heritage projects. Bolton Museum commissioned Sean to carry out research for an exhibition and documentary film exploring the local origins of Reebok, the global sportwear giant that was founded in Bolton. Sean brought great commitment and enthusiasm to the Reebok project. We had some tight deadlines, and Sean was always quick to respond to requests for extra information or feedback. We were grateful for his support.

Janet Arthur MBE

Chair, LeicesterShire Historic Churches Trust

Sean has been involved with the LeicesterShire Historic Churches Trust for the last two years – running our social media and co-ordinating our main fundraising event, Ride+Stride.
His social media work has greatly extended LHCT’s reach for the full range of our activities – grants to churches and chapels, Ride+Stride fundraising, lectures, events and tours, and snippets of historical and architectural information. He also mounted a photographic exhibition – Twelve Churches of Christmas – on our Facebook page in 2023.
His work for Ride+Stride has involved efficient database management, liaison with six Area Organisers and nearly 400 local organisers, printing and posting paperwork for the event, and reaching out to all primary and secondary schools. Over the two years, the amount raised has increased from £33,500 in 2022 to more than £40,000 in 2024.
We are happy to recommend Sean, his work and his creativity.

Sam Warren

Project Manager, 2Funky Arts

Sean had an important role in our first national project: The Record Store & Black Music: England’s Tastemakers. From the very beginning, Sean’s passion for these topics was evident. His extensive knowledge and dedication to thorough research were crucial to the success of our project. One of Sean’s greatest strengths was his ability to conduct insightful and thought-provoking interviews. He had a natural talent for connecting with people and getting them to open up about their experiences and perspectives. This added a unique and valuable dimension to our research. Throughout the project, Sean demonstrated exceptional writing skills. He was able to take complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner, making it accessible to a wide audience. His attention to detail and strong organizational skills were also evident in his writing, making the final product a polished and well-structured piece of work. Working with Sean was a pleasure, and I would highly recommend him for any research or writing project. His passion, dedication, and expertise in the areas of heritage, research and writing make him a valuable asset to any team.
